Wound II

Patinated bronze

Wound II is a bronze cast of a stone carving that Krebs made. The sculpture takes the shape of a scar that the artist has from an injury.  The piece is about both physical and psychological trauma, things that heal and things that leave permanent marks on us both visible and invisible.  The alabaster chosen for the hand-carved piece resembles skin.  The veins and cracks of the stone reflect vessels in the body and the greyish-brown shades that show through the translucent milky-white material are like bruises.  When cast in bronze the artist used the natural black and blue patinas on the “skin” of the sculpture, and a polished mirror finish on the “wound” so that it becomes a liquid-like opening or portal that the viewer can enter.
